i got Soulseek! it's really cool! a lot of my library is comprised of low-quality youtube or bandcamp rips, so ive replaced a few albums with better quality versions, and ive found a lot of new stuff as well. i feel like i'm kind of doing a disservice to the community, since im sharing such low quality stuff, but you can check the bitrate before you download anything, so im not so worried. ive found a lot of treasure troves, e.g. a huge repository of D&B from its prime in Britain, a lot of Argentine literature (it's really hard, i hear, to find spanish-language books, especially novels), the entirety of Battlestar Galactica (2003) and all of its shorts and cut scenes and such (wow!), etc.. i feel like ive been missing out. i thought of getting soulseek a long time ago, but i was worried ISPs could detect it and ban you like they do with torrents. honestly, i have no clue if this is the case, actually, but i dont really see how it could be; Soulseek is P2P, so they can't snoop in on anything. i dont get any messages and in fact have gotten zero uploads since i installed Nicotine+ yesterday, not that i expect anyone to find me yet, i only got one profile-info probe a few minutes after i first made my account. the wishlist feature is nice; i can write the names of niche/rare albums and it probes for them about every 12 minutes, and if it finds one it tells me who's hosting it. this is how i got a higher-quality version of 202's Doscientosdos (64kb/s -> 128kb/s), which's CD is only sold in mom'n'pops in Argentina, as far as i know.
