indigo glass, encouragement, CRT & sway
i got a cool plugin for KDE, that makes all transparent windows have a glass effect, kind of like the liquid glass effect on apple devices, but with some more customizability. i made mine look like indigo frosted glass, to go with my wallpaper. Spectacle, the default KDE screenshot software, doesn't capture it when i ask it to capture a window, so i always have to crop it badly, but anyway, some examples of the glass effect: before/after, terminal, video1. you get the idea. it's quite the departure from how i usually theme my stuff, that is, all skeuo/aero and such. i guess it could be interpreted as either of them, but i dont think it is. i think it's like, a subset of all that flat minimalist stuff. its a small hemisphere-bubble in a flat surface, you know? it's a small, maximalist kind of detail in a minimalist setup. at least, for my music player. i would never use its flat UI again if it had the option to theme it better, but i stick with it because it has good functionality.
also, i got a little further in Myst, and i feel it's a lot less challenging. you just gotta get to it! i feel confident i can beat the game.
i had more to write, but i just realized it's like 11PM and i need some sleeeeep!
...i shut off Paralizer and am editing this post from my phone while in bed. the wonders of portable tech!
today i swapped out the monitor on my cardboard desk (the one where Slab Serif resides while charging or when i want to use it but dont want to be on a laptop) for my CRT. it looks good. Sway manages a 4:3 display surprisingly well considering its window management relies on having a widescreen display a lot. i played a bit of Cave Story and Myst on it.
ok, ok, now it's midnight, im done for today.
1 also visible here is a new wallpaper plugin i got that blurs it when a window is active, which is a cool effect, too, but one that i don't specifically care about. i usually keep my windows maximised anyway, so i only see my wallpaper when nothing is open, so it's not blurred.
